Taking a Pet Cat to Canada

Requirements for moving domestic cats to Canada...

Cats under three months old can be brought to Canada without requirement for vaccinations, certificates or quarantine.

Cats older than three months from a rabies free country may be brought to Canada with:

  • either a valid export certificate issued by an official government veterinarian to prove that the animal had been in a rabies free environment for the past six months OR
  • with a valid rabies vaccination issued by a licenced veterinarian in either English or French. The certificate must clearly identify the animal and indicate the name and serial number of the licenced vaccine used

There is no waiting period required between the time the animal was vaccinated and it entering Canada.

Cats of all ages entering Canada from a non-rabies free country must have an original, valid rabies vaccination certificate, issued by a licensed veterinarian in either English or French. The certificate must clearly identify the animal and indicate the name and serial number of the licensed vaccine used.
